Winterlude takes place over the first three
weekends in February.
Events include musical shows, professional figure skating, snow sculpting
and ice carving competitions, the world's largest skate-a-thon, and
a bed race that draws crowds from miles around.
In Hull, Jacques Cartier Park is transformed into a winter wonderland,
the world's largest children's snow playground.
Winterlude was founded in 1979 by the National Capital Commission
(NCC) and every year it attracts thousands visitors from across Canada
and around the world.
Professional and amateur carvers from across Canada and around the
world come to Ottawa interested in the Ice Carving Competition. Some
artists create Snow Sculptures carvings of epic proportions out of
gigantic blocks of snow that measuring 3.7 meters.
